Default JDM vs USDM ECU - wiring problems

I have some sort of wiring issue: here is what is happening

running LS/Vtec w/ obd2-obd1 jumper

with virgin JDM P72 OBD1 ecu hooked up it runs fine just pulls knock sensor light every once in awhile

with 2 different USDM P28 obd1 ( 1 chipped on was not) they both immediately started smoking - literally started smoking,

anyone have any ideas?????

As far as I know there are no pin differences between the JDM and USDM OBD1 ECU's. Can you take the covers off the JDM and smok'n USDM ecu's and check for any signs of overheating or scorching? Any signs are usually obvious. Scorching/burnt = black and white mark with signs of melting Overheating = A less obvious sign with a light brown or orange mark around the hot spot/resistor.

If you find anything like this take a pic and psot it up. Or just post up the white number that coincides with the trace on the board.... IE R34, R17, C52, IC3, CN2..etc

This may answer your IAT & EVAP wiring question that you asked in a new thread.

If you follow your IAT sensor wire from the OBD1 ECU to the sensor it should go as follows:
From the ECU = OBD1 D15 pin. It connects to the conversion harness @ D08 (OBD2a) or C25 (OBD2b) from there it would go to your IAT sensor.

The PCS or EVAP Purge control solenoid wiring is as follows;
From the ECU = OBD1 A20 pin. It connects to the conversion harness @ A15 (OBD2a) or A06 (OBD2b) from the harness it would go to your EVAP Purge control solenoid.

If you are unable to find any of this stuff. I would suggest that you get your self a manual with the wiring diagrams in it. It will help you out quite a bit.
