Default JDM Transmission Woes

I have a '89 CRX w/a JDM B16a1 and a Y1 tranny w/LSD.I have a CAI,a header and a few more bolt ons.My best 1000 ft. ET to date has been a 12.6 at 84.6mph.I have beaten a 4.6l Mustang GT, an ITR(twice),a'99 Si etc.Enough bragging-I know I'm not the only one whose JDM(cable) tranny came over w/bad synchros(3rd)or developed this problem-where are you guys getting JDM tranny parts from?I bought a JDM YS1 tranny off Ebay(lower gears/final drive) but I'm worried that the synchros in it might go too.I pla to put the LSD diff into the new tranny-anybody done this? Thanks.

yep..that's common with JDM cable b-series trannys - 3rd gear synchro goes bad.
I believe you can use synchros from a US 90-91 LS integra tranny. Since you own a YS1 tranny, you should be in better shape. The YS1 is designed a bit better than the 89-91 B16 trannies. They YS1's internal mechanical parts are actually B-series hydro tranny parts, so if you ever need to get internal parts for a YS1 tranny, get them from a DOHC VTEC Delsol or JDM EG-SiR transmission (S21 or Y21). As for an LSD, you can either go with a used JDM YS1/Y21/S21 LSD or just go aftermarker....Quaife.

the JDM YS1 LSD tranny is the one you want. It has the same exact gear ratios as pre-97 ITR transmission. And if you can't get one, and you really want an LSD transmission, get a Y1 - only downside is the final drive is longer (4.266) I believe and not a 4.40. It's not thaaat bad though.

S1 and J1's don't come equipped with a factory LSD at all, or none that I have seen in my Honda life.

the YS1 tranny is found on both US and JDM 92-93 Integra's only. I don't know if the Y1 LSD will work in a YS1 transmission, but I do know that a 92-95 Y21 LSD will fit a YS1 tranny, Eric B. had one in his CRX. I'm not totally sure if the Y1 disc will work on a YS1 shaft - but if you retain the Y1's pressure plate and flywheel that should work no problem.

Thanks katman.

Based on your post above, YS1 is the JDM or USDM 92-93 integra GSR tranny right? Then it should bolt right up to my DA?

Could you put different 5th gears on the YS1? And it shouldn't have the 3rd gear problem?

YS1 is found in both US and Japan on any 92-93 Integra, not just VTEC models (as far as the US goes), so you have to be careful when buying a US one. The JDM YS1's are mostly B16 trannys. Yes it will bolt up to your DA chassis. I hope it doesn't have a 3rd gear problem! But they do have less synchro problems than the Y1/J1/S1 trannys.

My recently purchased JDM YS1 tranny (w/o LSD) will probably be for sale now that I don't think it will fit my '90 JDM B16a(the tranny is '92-'93) w/o buying another clutch-if anybody is interested.

The YS1 tranny is from a JDM Integra(G2)Xsi/Rsi.It has the same ratios as the JDM ITR tranny. The USDM Integra cable tranny is also known as the YS1 but only the GSR version has close, low ratios-the LS(and GS,RSandSE)tranny(s)do not.I think this applies to only 92-93 Integra trannys-right Katman?
