JDM B16a Knocking Sound
hey. I have a JDM B16a swapped into an EJ1. The motor was purchased from H motors online and probably has only 5000 miles on it since it was purchased. I have I/h/e along with a p28 chipped ecu. im running 10w-30 oil. I noticed that their was a knocking sound coming from the head. stock valvetrain and cams and stock block. I'm not getting any codes thrown and the engine runs perfectly. Starts right up. idles fine. never stalls. its just the knocking sound. what should i do to eliminate this. should i try adjusting my valves?
You could try adjusting the valves to spec, mine taps a bit still after adjusting my valves. I am running standard valves with skunk 2 lifters & springs. Also my rc injectors pulsing sounds like its tapping too.
alright so the first step is adjusting my valves to stock spec. is this something i should be pretty worried about considering it is running perfect?
A valve clearance problem will get better or worse (usually better) as the motor warms up. Is the sound louder when the engine is cold? Improper valve clearance usually makes noise before it causes any noticeable problems. Even though it's running "perfect," if the clearances aren't set correctly then it will increase wear on your valves and the problem will likely get much worse over time.
i want to say that it does get better as it warms up. its not really that loud to begin with so its hard to tell. im currently not driving it. garaged for the winter. so i will go start it up when i get back from class and let you know for sure.
The noise definately gets quieter as the engine warms up. So adjust valves to spec is the first thing I will try. Will start on it here this week. Pretty busy with college and work full time.
