Default JB Weld to fix a supposedly cracked block?

Has anyone ever used JB weld to repair a crack in an engine block? Is it an effective repair? How premanent is it?

well, it depends on where the block is cracked, I would say.

it's not something I would do to MY block though..

Yes, I am serious. I am in the process of purchasing a 1997 neon that supposedly has a cracked block. I have not seen it but my instinct tells me that the mechanic is trying to rip of my 70 year old co worker who is selling me the car cause the mechanic quoted him 4500 for new engine+labor. I think it's either a head gasket or expansion plug. The old man says it overheated and you can see the block leaking coolant.

Yes it works very well. I've never seen it fail on a properly prepared block.

Probably overheated and warped the head, or maybe blew the headgasket.
