Default Jackstand high or low for safety?

My jack stands are pretty high that when I rest the car on top, it's high enough for me to do what I need to do. See line B.

I was just thinking, and reading on the proper use of the the jackstand, it always say to adjust it to the height I need. Meaning set the stand on one of the notches. See line A. Meaning set it to whatever height the user need.

So my question is, is there any risk by using the stands at the "default height" setting? When you think about it, it is resting on the U section.

Or is it better to be on one of the notches, even if it's the lowest? Life the car higher than what I need.

Or makes no difference?

As long as the floor is flat (and the jacks are even) you should be safe at any setting. But to be extra cautious put some spare wheels under the car in an area you aren't working. That way if something terrible does happen the car will land on the wheels and not you.

Second that. I rarely (if ever) work at home anymore, but I always make sure to put a tire under the car for insurance.

When I put off my car on jack stands I always shake the car. This is to make sure the jack stands are solid before I get under.

The smaller and cheaper jack stands are less stable than larger ones, like 3 ton.
