Default iVTEC and how does it REALLY work?

What I mean is, on an RSX S engine what REALLY controls the variable cam timing. In some ways it looks like just oil pressure, more RPMs more pressure, more cam timing change.
I'd like to use a SDS unit, but it only has one RPM controlled switch, I can use that to run the VTEC (valve lift) part. I just need some way to trick the i part of the VTEC. This is all becuase I can't get the !@#$%^& immobilizer to work, in my built from scratch built race car.
Maybe a OBD I conversion would work also, I don't know.

OK, here's how iVTEC really works, I think.
Oil pressure is pumped to the iVTEC solinoid. The solinoid picks and drops on the command of the ECM. If the solinoid is off more than it is on the cams are retarded, if the solinoid is on more than it is off the cams are advance.
I don't see any way to not use the ECM unless someone comes out with a replacement ECM that does the same thing.
I came to this conclusion after reading the Honda Technicians training manual.
