no way any other headgasket will fit on your cavalier. My suggestion is go to the dealer and buy a new headgasket.

Buy the headgasket and a manual and have some of your friends help you.

$1250 for a headgasket replacement!.. I would get another estimate from a more honest mechanic..

If you do end up DYI... Make sure you take the head to a machine shop, to get it inspected for warpage, cracks, etc... Otherwise, you will just end-up pulling it again... hehehe

Might check into just getting another head, have it worked on. Then you could just plug it in... Probably will be around a week+ of down time. While the head goes through the shop, waiting for parts for one reason or another...

is this a 4 or 6 cyl?

4 is OK to change but the 6 may be difficult if it is the rear head....
