Default itr shocks mod to fit ex...will it work?

stupid me, i bought a set of itr shocks for a 6th generation civic. as soon as i found out they could not be used without changing something, i explored some options. since itr rlca's will not fit, i figured i would modify the itr shocks to fit. listen to this and tell me what you all think:

the end of the rear itr and civic shocks are simply comprised of a mounting piece welded to the rest of the shock. i should note that the weld is only a small .5" weld on either side of the mounting piece. my idea is to saw off the ends of the itr and civic shocks and weld the civic forks onto the end of the itr shocks. the weld should be fairly simple. does anyone know the anatomy of a shock well enough to know if i would be doing any internal damage to the hydraulics of the shock?

please post what you think of this or if you have heard any other stories of how to fit the itr's to a 6th gen civic.
