I remember Saab, and maybe Volvo, having similar systems for years.

Doesn't Honda have this type of active head rests?

Or is it a completely different technology?

Saab has had something similar for several years, I'm not sure when they started it. It's kinda like a lever embedded in the seat structure, your back presses against the lever which pushes the headrest forwards. No need for any sensors to trigger it, it's completely passive.
