Iridium vs Nitrous
Does anyone have any experience with running Denso Iridium or any other iridium plugs in a heavy nitrous load. I am concerned that the tip may be too small to disipate the heat. Leading to melting of the plug or even worse detination. There might be other problems that I am over looking. I know that some of the quick class cars are using Iridium plugs but a turbo motor does not have the combustion temperature of a nitrous motor. Any help would be great.
Doesn't nitrous fed cars run on a lower temp as opposed to FI cars in that when nitrous disassociates, it's an endothermic reaction, the creating a cooling effect?
I know what you are thinking and I agree but I was also thinking along the lines of the increased volitilidy of a big nitrous shot and the tip of the plug not being able to reject heat fast enough or absorbing to much heat, leading to detination. I am concerned about the tip of the plug because of the relitively large surface area compared to the amount of material in the tip. This makes it more likely to create detination in much the same way that a rough surface in a combustion chamber leads to detination. This might not be a concern but I would like to hear from some more people that have some experience. Thanks
Well, when you spray or turbo your motor, you go w/ colder-step spark plugs; these have shorter ground straps that don't absorb much heat, therefore decreasing the chance of detonation.
If the iridium's have a ver small ground strap, then I would not be worried; that's how colder plugs work.
Personally, i would stick to some copper Denso's or NGK's.....what's a big shot to you?

I am aware of the colder plug having a shorter ground strap and that helping to avoid detination. I was not thinking of the ground strap but of the electrode of an Idridium plug. Is there a problem with the heat and electrod being so small. Any info from people that have experience with this situation.

I never had a problem running Denso Iridium's with a 75 shot. In fact the engine was notably more responsive to driver input running the Iridium's vs Bosch Platinum's that were in the vehicle before.

Running platinum plugs with nitrous was a BIG mistake.
