intermittent wipers for 01 civic

can anyone help??? what to do???
please help!?!?
i have an 01 civic coupe ex... there is only one intermittent wiper setting on the wiper stalk. the newer ( 02-present models) models have a multiple-intermittent setting on the wiper stalk. i was told the electrical connector on the newer wiper stalk was different from the one on my 01 civic wiper stalk. so if i was to buy the newer stalk w/ the multi-intermittent option it wouldn't work/plug into the connector on the harness in my 01 civic. are the other electrical connectors on that wiring for the wiper harness changed/altered like the wiper connector has been altered in configuration/shape? can i replace the wiper connector only or do i have to replace the entire harness? and do i have to replace the body computer to allow the intermittent function to work properly? or should i just forget about the whole thing and live w/ the measely old one setting?
