I believe Honda says 10w30 motor oil can be used "in an emergency situation" but normally Honda MTF should be used. I used Honda MTF when I changed my tranny fluid, which can be picked up from a local Honda/Acura dealer.

Different dealers seem to have different policies on selling MTF, the Honda dealer I went to first told me to get lost unless I was willing to buy a 50 gallon drum while an Acura dealer happily sold me 1 quart containers.

Honda came out with Honda MTF in '99. Until then, they specified 10w-30 motor oil. Now their MTF is 10w-30 with friction enhancers that are typically found in gear oil. A lot of Honda employees believe its Mobile 1, but Honda wont confirm it.

If your car is '99 or later I would definetly use it. If its older than that, I would still use it. It has friction enhancers that are good for gears. Otherwise regular 10w-30 is fine, even if its not an "emergency situation".
