Default Intake or Exhaust cam

Just wondering( I am not thinking about doing this) but if you had a b16a1, would you benifit more form a CTR intake cam or CTR exhaust cam?

I've heard of people upgrading one cam at a time, but I've always wondered witch cam would be best to upgrade..If you put a bigger intake cam on would your stock exhuast cam be able to exhuast all the gasses produced by the combustion of a larger cams intake?

just do both at the same time.
no point getting more air in the cylinder if you cant get it all out.

CTR intake cam would be my choice. The engine would benefit from more lift and duration as opposed to the stock b16 intake cam.

The CTR intake cam has 1mm more of lift and 13 degrees more duration than the stock b16 intake cam. The only downside is that you wouldn't be able to expel all the extra air coming in because of the stock exhaust cam. But you would still benefit more from the CTR intake cam more than you would with the CTR exhaust cam.

As said earlier both cams together would be a more powerful combo.

I agree, you really only need the IN cam... The spec of the ITR/CTR EX cam over a GSR/B16 is so little that even on the dyno you won't really notice it... If it were me, go with the IN cam and some sprockets... Good Luck

you yould benefit more from the exhaust cam. it would most likely give you more overlap (dont know the specs of the cam). the exhaust side is weaker than the intake side (smaller valves and less duration). if you put the intake cam on first you would reep as much benefit as the exhaust because the exhaust would still be restrictive.

My thoughts exactly. Don't do a half-*** job, do it right the first time even if it takes you a little longer to save up $.

How do you figure?? I've seen as much as a ~1whp gain from the EX cam on a stock bottom end... With the slight difference in cam profiles the EX cam really doesn't do a thing... The tiny bit of added duration does create more overlap but why do you want more on a lower compression motor... Again if you do want to go with both, do so... It's up to you... Peace

If you had a bigger intake cam, how would the exhuast cam expel all the gases the intake cam allowed into the motor? Wouldn't you be left with positive pressure when the intake valves open forcing a slight back flow into the intake manifold?

I agree with both at the same time, but if anyone has noticed, usually the intake side seems to make more power, at least it did on the last couple engines when we were mesing with cam gears.
