how hard is it to install an aftermarket cam on a sohc engine?
what kind of timing would i have to do?
how long would this process take?

maybe about 3-5 hrs depends on how mechanically inclined you are ,having the right tools etc... If it was me I'd change the valve cover gasket just for piece of mind

What single cam engine are installing the cam in? Get a copy of a helms manual for it.

And yeah buy a new cam seal. It is only a couple of bucks.

Adjusting the valve lash means...

Making sure the clearance inbetween the follower(rocker) and the cam lobes is set correctly.
