Installing axle seals on trans
I just got an 89 si trans. with alot of miles on it that I am going to install. I figured since the trans is out and its old, I may as well put some axle seals in. I have the new seals, and it shouldn't be a problem getting the old ones out, but is their a preferred method of installing the axle seals straight in so they are not damaged? How do you guys install the seals? I just don't want to pull the old ones out, and then ruin the new ones by not installing them straight!! Any help would be appreciated, thanks alot.
I machined up this two sided axle seal driver. The pilot fits into the differential with 0.003 in clearance. You flip it over and put the pilot on the other side to drive the other side seal. Handle is not shown.
PS: Thanks to my daughter Sarah, who helped me machine these drivers, took these pictures for you and cleaned up the shop afterwards!

Thanks for the reply--but do you think there is an effective way by say using a large socket--like a 32mm axle nut socket to bang it in straight? I don't have a machine shop--and it seems like alot of trouble to pay someone do make that piece---although the piece you made looks righteous!!
