Default installed autometer coolant temp guage and not functioning correctly

well I went ahead and installed my autometer coolant temp guage and an autometer coolant temp sending unit, just so you know the car is a 94 honda civic hatch with a 95 gsr motor. I took out the sending on the head that is to the rear of the vtec solinoid. I ran the signal, ground, and hot wire to the guage, when I start the car the needle fluctuates but does not move from there, ther other odd part is my tachometer is not working know since that sending unit is probabally controlling most of the dash, whould It work if I put a tee fitting there and put both sending units in? The instructions said that my ground should be as close to the sending unit as possible, does it really matter that my ground is under the dash?

any help would be greatly appriciated.

later
