Default Installation experiences with bushing sets and valve springs.....

Anyone have any experience with either of these? Do you have to have a press to get all the new bushings in? and is the best way to get the old ones out just to burn them?

As far as the valve springs....I thought this was something a pretty knowledgeable garage mechanic, like myself, could do. But I was recently told I need a tool to compress the springs that costs like 500 bucks or more. I thought there was a craftsman one that was like 50 or so that would do the job, but I was informed that it doesn't fit into DOHC heads - they don't reach or something like that. Any one have personal experience putting new valve springs in, and how did you do it if so?

It should. I saw a post with some guys using this tool. Can't find the post though.

There is also another tool that you use a hammer and socket shaped tool to whack the retainers and the keepers pop out and get caught within the magnetized tool.

I have the exact same tool. I used it on my B16 head, it works good. Removing the valvespring and retainers is much easier than putting them back, at least it was for me.

I use the same tool as well. The way I put the retainers back it is with a pocket screw driver with a dab of grease with a retainer stuck to it. One at a time they go really easy.

Bushings really suck, but, if you put them on yourself you'll save about 4-8 hours worth of money at a shop. But Im warning you find a friend that wont hold it against you and enlist his help. I only know guys who have done their own. Ive done my own only and no one elses, I refuse.

do you guys have any better pictures of that tool.

I was just going to make my own valve spring compressor..but I may just fabricate one that looks like that.

I knew a guy that compressed all his valve springs with his HANDS. not that is hardcore. (or so he said)
