Default Newbie here

Hey Im new to this board and though i dont have a car right now i plan on buying a 5th gen civic hatch. I want to drop an H22 engine in it, i got a couple of questions for you guys.
1. Does your car need to be VTEC to swap to a VTEC?
2. If you do, can you just buy a VTEC wiring harness?
3. Is there any known problems with swapping to an H22 in a hatch?
4. Is http://www.jdm1.com a reliable site to purchase engines off of? if not what is.
5. Why do some cars sound really annoying?
A. How does the cat. converter affect engine sound?
B. How can i prevent this very annoying sound from coming from my car?

5. Give me any other tips to do this swap.

Sorry if any of these questions are dumb but i am fairly new to the technical stuff with hondas as I am only 15 and dont have friends with imports.

1. no (LS/VTEC, CRVTEC examples)
2. someone else answer this
3. LOTS of people do it. just make sure you or whoever does it has experience with that swap.
4. dunno.
5. people put pep boys mufflers and weapon-R DURRRRAGGON!!! intakes on them
A. No cat, MUCH larger sound, very illegal, very ricey.
B. Use a cat? stock muffler, etc.

1. No.
2. In most cases you can just add a couple wires to your existing harness.
3. It's heavy and you have to buy a mount kit which uses polyurethane. Say hello to one hell of a shaky cabin. You also have to convert from your solid shifter linkage to the cable shifter of the H-series transmission.
4. Dunno.
5. They have annoying-style mufflers.
a. It's a bit of a muffler, nothing major.
b. Use a muffler that's designed to not sound annoying.

6. It's a lot simpler to go with a B-series swap. With the money you would spend on the mount kit to get the H22 into the thing you could get some performance parts for a B18C.

tucson eh? me too. where about are you?

anyway, here
1) No
2) you can just run the vtec wire to the ecu
3)Yes, chronic understeer, your best bet is to build a b20/vtec
4)NO! NO NO NO! there are people on this board who have been screwed by them.
http://www.jdmhondaparts.com
http://www.hondamotorsonline.com
those are some of the best.
5) cause they dont know how to do research before they buy those crappy OBX exhausts
a)i dont think so
b)do research on yor exhaust before you buy it. spend the real money on a good catback. not just a muffler or a cheap knock off.

1. nope.
2. you have to run wires from your ecu to the solenoid and other sensors.
3. no problems. my friend has one and that thing is fast!!
4. never been to that site
5. they buy super cheap mufflers.
a. the sound of your motor in your car will be louder as long as outside. you will also get stains on your muffler as well as experience stinky smells. IMO, not woth it at all.
b. keep your cat on.

JDM1 is the WORST company to buy from. They received my money two months ago and still have nothing. Also I can't even get ahold of them to get a tracking number even after they have given me a wrong tracking number last month. I hope to see no one go through this.

I'm 16, and I know that no 15yr. old, much less anyone under 18 needs a 5th gen. civic w/ an H22 or any other swap. At 15 you dont need a car with the power-to-weight ratio of a stock Corvette. Learn how to drive, and keep your car fairly stock, or else you will lose lots on your investment when you get into your first accident.

Here's a suggestion:

Buy a more efficient / modify your existing OEM exhaust and make power with your motor!!! Hence... no one will be the wiser to your extra 30+ HP to the
wheels. Only an extra deeper hum at idle...

Exhaust only scavenges power from a motor. An NA motor makes air speed
velocity through the engine with the camshafts. Not to say exhaust tuning
doesnt have its merits, my take on the subject is... you get what you pay
for... wether that be with research and actual work or money spent effectively.

for me, I am staying on my stock system until I can reach 188.5/141.9 at the
wheels. by then, I will have a need to upgrade the exhaust.

Happy Motoring!

thanks for the concern but thats not what i asked. Im going to drive responsibly, as in taking it to the strip to have fun. Im not gonna put other people at risk just so i can have fun on the streets. Every Friday we have a "run what you brought" event and the strip is like 15 min away.
