Ignition system question
I receintly acquired a 91 hatch Si, it ran fine for a while, it actually came all the way from New Hampshire to Florida with no problems. A couple of weeks ago the car wouldn't start, I checked for spark at there was none. I replaced distributor cap and rotor and nothing, so I went ahead and replaced the distributor. Now it is running fine. I noticed that the old distributor had a burned part and I am wondering if there is something else that I need to change that might be causing the distributor to fail.
I was told by a mechanic that probably my main relay is bad, do you guys think that is correct???
Feedback is greatly appreciated

Which 'part' was burned? Could be normal discoloration.
The main relay provides power to the fuel pump and fuel injectors. I don't see how it could kill a distributor.
An open plug wire, bad spark plug, or cap/rotor could make it hard on the distributor. The spark has to go somewhere and will take the path of least resistance to ground.
