Idle stays high after engine is warm. No codes.
If the engine is cold when I start the RPM's of course hover around 1500-1700 but, once the engine is warm they don't drop. I have to shut it down then turn it back on and only then do the RPM's drop to "normal" 1000.
Speaking of which, doesn't that damn thing need to be around 700.....I attempted to adjust the RPM's lower but as soon as the IACV is hooked back up the damn thing goes to 1000 for idle. And while rolling with the clutch in or with the clutch out and the car in neutral it idles at 1400 until stopped where the RPM's drop to 1000.
Should I replace my IACV, can you clean them or do they just go bad?
EDIT: Would probably help if I said 97 Civic EX.

You can clean the IACV. Don't have to disconnect the coolant lines to it, just remove the bolts and pull it away from the intake manifold and give it a good bath with your favorite carb/intake cleaner. Don't loose the O-rings.
If you know where/what the fast idle valve is, try clamping shut the hose that leads to it. If the idle goes to normal, it's leaking and should be cleaned or replaced.
Also, check for cracked or missing vacuum hoses and connections, including the PCV valve.

so when i turn the throttle screw to drop the idle revs on a 1st gen B16, will the ECU compensate?
i keep adjustoing the screw but it keeps creeping back up...
do i need to unplug the IAC valve? - i have the honda manual, i just thought that was the way honda liked to do it!!!
thanks for the heads up Teken

Unplug the IACV from the ECU, then adjust idle......once idle is adjusted properly reset ECU and reconnect IACV (with vehicle off) then allow car to idle for 10 minutes to allow ECU to "relearn".
EDIT: Tonight I will clean the trottle body and the IACV then reset the Idle and ECU.
