Default IACV Question

I've been reading previous posts on this subject, and I still have no idea what an IACV is. I am pulling a code 14 on my 2000 Si and have read about bypassing this? or fixing it? but nothing solid on the subject. Does anyone have anything they can share? Thanks.

it is used to control the amout of air bypassing the throttle body so you engine can idle when hte throttle is closed.

check it is pluged in, or replace it.

i recently took off the iacv to inspect the o-rings. i just visually inspect it then intalled it right back in. now, whenever i start the car it doesn't go right away to about 1500rpm for warming up like before, it just climbs lazily to 1000 rpm then climb up to 1200 rpm then climbs down to only 1000 rpm. can i iacv get fucked just by taking it off? i tried resetting the ECU but same thing. all i did was inspect the o-ring and nothing more. what's happening? how can i fix this?

i recall reminding you that you should replace the o-rings.

there is no such thing as inspecting an o-ring.

yep you did tell me but i don't get why i should replace the o-ring. here's the deal, not long ago i took off the iacv of my 99 SiR to clean it coz of silly idling. after that, i read somewhere on the board that you should be careful not to lose the o-ring. so i got worried since i wasn't paying attention to any o-ring when i took it off. after reading it, i decided to check if the o-ring was still there but my brother used the car so i figure that the iacv of the SiR and CRV might be the same, i decided to take off the iacv of the CRV so as to lessen my worrying about the o-ring of my SiR. in short, there's no problem whatsoever with the iacv of the CRV, i was really inspecting what the o-ring really look like and does it fall off easily. so now, my question is, do you mean that each time the iacv is removed from its place, the o-ring has to be replace whether the o-ring/iacv is defective or not? is that what you mean?

yep.

spot on.

an o-ring loses its ability to properly seal once it is loosened once.

as i have implied- you should replace an o-ring whenever you see it.

they are like 2 bucks...

you can decide not to replace it, but the likelyhood of an improper seal is higher - particulary as the o-ring gets older...

(an improper seal on hte IACV can lead to vacuum leaks into the manifold and a funny idle...)

are you getting any IACV codes on the SiR?

ok now i get what you mean.

nope, i'm not getting any code from the SiR as well as the CRV just the problems i stated above.

even before i took off the iacv on the SiR for cleaning, idling has already been acting up. i've tried everything but no good and no codes as well. so now i give up and i'm just gonna waiting for the cause of the problem to just come out by itself, i will replace the o-ring though, sort of a last resort. thanks.

RESURRECTION!

If I replace/inspect my IACV on my First Gen b16, what O-ring do I use for replacement? One from a 90-91 civic/crx? or Del Sol Vtec/99-00 Si? Thanks.

all i know is that my extra d16 iacv, extra b20 iacv and 1g b16 iacv have the same o-ring and so i would assume that the delsol is the same too...i would say either.
