Default I need a quick simple answer on OEM bearings pls.

I'm checking my main bearing clearances with new oem green and yellow main bearings. Main 2 and 3 with the green bearing are very very close to .0015". Main 4 is .0015" with the yellow bearing. Mains 1 and 5 are still tight using the yellow bearing. Im just wondering is I can use any color combo that i need aslong as i get the clearance i want. I thought i read here on a thread a while ago that it is not suggested to use more than 2 different colors? I dont want to leave mains 1 and 5 too tight.

what is tight.. and what engine is it?

the d16z6 1 & 5 mains have closer and tighter tolerances than the 3 inners ones.

I have *Heard* that you can mix colors that are next to each other ie: Green and yellow or green and brown but not Green and pink or green and black or green and blue.

it can get expensive buying honda bearings this way. did u match the letters/numbers off the crank and block. that should get u very close. yes u can use different colors for clearances. to fine tune u can use one pink and one yellow on the same journal just do not skip more than one color. do a search theres a great article on here somewhere on the colors, thicknesses, and how to measure

I did get the colors off of the crank and they come out to yellow, green, yellow, pink and pink. Since Honda used three different colors im sure i can too. I am going to use the same colors that came originally with the motor but not in the same pattern. I'm trying to get .0015" clearance on all mains and the motor is going to be a all motor ls with pr3 pistons, mild port and polish head, crower stage 2 cams and crower valvetrain. So far i havent spent any extra money on the mains because i got a green to begin with and went from there. I did order a red bearing for my rods and they came out too loose so i got a pink and that got me good clearance on one rod but loose on all the others so im going to order a yellow bearing next and that should give me good clearance on all the other 3 rods.

When you install the bearing make sure your plastigauge them.

When I did that I found that most of the journals needed the next sized bearing to get the 0.0015 clearance.

Yup. I think i waste too much plastigage though cuz sometimes i cut them too short, other times the piece gets lost.
Thanx for the tip anyways
