I have a stumping fuel question for experts on here
Wasnt really sure where to put this thread but here goes.
So I have a 99 Accord Couple 4cylinder 5 speed.
About a month and a half ago it wouldnt start. Found it to be the fuel pump went bad. So I ordered a fuel pump (just the motor) from an online store for $50. Installed it, car fires up and runs fine for about a month.
Won't start again. I have power to the pump but it's not turning on.
I take it apart, thinking this cheap online part is the culprit. I go to the local auto parts store and spend $200 on a pump. Install it. Fires up, I drive home (I drive 220 miles/per day back and forth to work).
So, at home the next day it won't start. I'm stumped. I do some research and read of the main realy issues. Check that, all fine. I have power at the pump it just won't turn on. So, I take the entire pump assembly out, disconnect the actual pump motor and blow the assembly out with air. All this black oily looking stuff comes out. I connect the new pump and the old to 12V direct and nothing. I take my compressor and blow the pumps out from the infeed side and this same crud comes out. Connect again to 12V and they work fine. Put one back in and it fires up. So I'm left to assume something in the tank is clogging the pump. Look in the tank and can't find anything. Looks clear and free of rust and debris. So I then assume maybe the return line is breaking down and filling the tank with debris. I run the car with the return line off catching the returned fuel into a milk jug. And nothing. Clean as can be. So today I drive the car to work. (it started hard this morning). I get to work with no issues. Park the car and say what the heck lets see. And nothing. I can hear relay click but no fuel pump clicking on. I havent taken it apart yet but I'm pretty sure of the cause. So, does anyone have any clue what this black crud is that keeps clogging the pump?
Thanks in advance.
