Default I have often wondered about this.....

It seems that a lot of people have been putting their slotted rotors on the wrong sides of their vehicle. I have always seen street cars running them one direction and race cars the other. Since I just purchased a pair I did some research to find out which way was the right way. I pulled this off of a Brembo site.

"Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors are sold in axle pairs and the easiest way to verify correct usage is to install the rotors on the side of the vehicle that results in the end of the slot nearest the outer edge of the rotor always contacting the brake pads first."

Any thoughts on this?

Yes that is what they look like. I believe that the pic is showing two of one side, otherwise they would be going opposite directions when placed on each side of the car.

see where tha green arrow points to, the brake pad will hit that before it hits where the red arrow is pointed to.
that's what i think Brembo is trying to say

I realise this, I am saying that the majority of people that I see with slotted rotors have them on the opposite/wrong way.

I would like to know also, but I am sure there is a reason for the slots being angled and there is indeed a right and wrong way.

ohh makes sense, haha. but from a technical standpoint does it reduce wear on the pads or anything?

I always thought that it had something to do with clearing away the brake dust but that could be way off base.

AFAIK the slots are there to remove the "glaze" on the pads they can get after sum hard braking.

I have 290mm 4 pots on my EF8 (Im in the uk BTW so its a real JDM car) I run 8 slot rotas & i have mine the other way around to that cuz thats what the company that makes them said to do!

Tho i have seen loads of ppl with them the other way around

I'd guess the way Brembo want it to be used could make the brakes sharper & most prob work the pads harder?

The picture w. the arrows on it has the rotor on the correct way. The slots need to be turned that way so they pick up air to keep them cool. If they were turned the other way, how would they pick up any air and be better then a pair of non slotted rotors (besides what its made of vs. stock..)? BTW got that info from Honda Acura Perfomence Handbook.

you're talking about the vents that are in the middle of the rotor to pull air in between the outside and inside of the the rotor, the inside/outside in respect to the side of the car. All front discs are ventilated. Slots don't help in cooling any. They were originally intended to clear away the brake dust build up away from the rotor. Don't know what use they have today.
