I hate VTEC
for some reason i cant get vtec to engage at all. Everything is in working order, the motor is a jdm b18c, and vtec will not kick in at all and there are no cels. The only way we got vtec to kick in was to wire it to a switch and it works fine so we know its nothing mechnica, we tryed 4 different ecus which have vtec we even tryed the jdm 72 ecu in another car and vtec worked fine. Does anyone know why vtec is not working with no cel. Oil level is fine by the way. its just so annoying having vtec wired to a switch, also im having an high idle problem in which we repalced the intake manifold gasket with a new one and also replaced the iacv with a new one and it still idles at 2000rpm, ive searched every vtec problem tread and could not find nothing i been up for 3 days stright and im am ready to sell this frekin car and just give up. any ideas on why vtec is being such a bitch. thanks in advance.
i don't have much experience with VTEC cars, but, try following the wires that activate vtec and see where they are located on the pin that connects to the ECU, find a diagram for your ECU and try to see if they are in the right place.
Do you have any method of figuring out your oil pressure?
i'm almost positive that both problems rely on the same thing....

What is this motor in?? is it just replaced into another gs-r with the same wire harness or is it swapped into a car with no vtec wires between the engine and dash harness, sounds dumb but people have been known to just put it in and not manually wire anything.Your idle problem could be because your secondary intake runners are either stuck or not wired properly, which could also cause trouble with vtec engaging.Check a diagram also on ecu pins and wires, should be vtec ground, vtec oil pressure sensor, and vtec activation point....others would be secondary intake, and knock.Check it all could be anything............
Your VTEC works if you manually wire a switch to it.
You have no CEL's (but your CEL does work, correct?) and your oil level is fine.
4 ECU's don't work in your car but do work fine in others.
When you wired the switch up, did you use the existing stock VTEC wire or run your own wire? If you ran your own, then I'd suspect the original wire is at fualt.

all that is correct. I did run use a seprate wire for vtec to a switch but i left everything pluged up to the harness, so everytime i go to hit the switch for vtec i get a code for vtec sol. and oil pres.

for your high idle problem, have you tried to tiiiten down the idle adjustment screw on the TB? check for vaccum leaks? cross the IACV & EVAP plugs at all (if you did, you'd probably get a code 10 for IAT)? oh and I'm not sure about HX harnesses, but they might utilize a 3-wire style IACV...you might wanna check on that (but I believe that only pertains to Auto HX's).
For VTEC, are all of yer grounds grounded on the engine harness? Is your engine a JDM OBD2 engine? if so, those do not have a VTPS (green plug on VT solenoid)...but reading that you changed out your VT solenoid, you probably have a VT solenoid with a VTPS on it.
