Default I’ve got an ecu problem

I’m looking to get a 2002 honda civic ex mt, i believe it has the 37820-PLRL05 in it but i haven’t seen it, what kind of ecu can i put into it, the ecu is fried and in “limp mode” or emergency mode, the dash gauges don’t work, and it won’t go past 15mph from what they told me. It’s got 200k on the dash. i’ve heard you can put the at ecu’s in the mt but not the other way around.

I also need to know if i can just slap one in there and it’ll work or if it needs programmed to it. Should i get a key with it and copy the original key. Will I have to learn the ecu to the bcm or any other modules?

You will have to marry the ECU to the existing key and immobilizer... you cannot simply plug it in and expect the engine to start. The immobilizer will block that from happening. I would hunt down a manual ECU... an auto ECU at best will throw codes and may reduce engine power without transmission communication. Also remember that the ECU version will need to be either with EGR or without EGR so engine function is correct. You will know this by identifying your engine as having/not having an EGR valve.

Okay mine has an egr valve, and i found an exact ecu except it’s L55 not L05, but it comes with the key and immobilizer for an okay price, would it work?

L55 is an Automatic... L05 is a manual.

So why wouldn’t they work, there’s a L55 and an L56 and those are the only ones that come with a key and immobilize, i understand that they are different transmissions but it shouldn’t stop it from working though.
