Default How to test gauge cluster lights outside of car

I bought some LEDs for my gauge cluster. (Yes, I know they can look uneven, but I always wanted to try it myself.) The problem is that LEDs are polarized and I'd like to connect the cluster to a 12v battery outside of the car to make sure each of them is illuminated, rather than mess around with it while it's in the car. Is there a guide somewhere with pictures showing how to do this? The main lights behind the speedometer and tach shouldn't be as difficult, but what about the lights behind the check engine light, high beams, etc.? I'm pretty challenged when it comes to electronics, so keep that in mind, thanks.
