how to tension timing belt
If it's whining the t belt is probably too tight. Most of the Hondas I've done you loosen up the adjustment nut/bolt on the tensioner pulley and rotate the motor two times counterclockwise, double check the marks and tighten the bolt back up. If you've got the covers off, on the belts longest length between two pulleys i usually try to get them so you can just about twist the belt halfway between your fingers. I would also check to make sure the accessory belts arent overtightened. Hope this helps

are you sure it's not one of the drive belts that's whining? the way the tbelt tensioner is designed for hondas, it's awfully hard to get the tbelt on too tight.

I'm curious as to how you replaced the head gasket without removing the timing belt.
I really don't think anyone's being unreasonable to you. You shouldn't attempt this kind of work without a service manual or a lot of experience. Holding your hand through the entire procedure because you don't have the manual shouldn't be what these forums are for.

I wasnt asking for someone to hold my hand, i understand the necessity for a service manual, but i did not have access to one, i only had a simple question that i should have asked more clearly. I just needed to know where the tensioner bolt was. Im sure i look like an idiot to you guys, and for that im sorry, but thanks for the help.

Yep its behind #2 which is the lower cover grommet.

so, is it required that you take off #1 to get to #17, or do you just have to take off #2? Or for that matter, does anyone know an easier way for me to get my timing belt back on the cam gears after installing new cams?
