how to take out tranny casing?
i did a search already.. im trying to take out the trans casing off a 90 ls trans.. i took off the 12 mm bolts that go around them... and i tried prying it off but it just wont come out.. any suggestions? is there a special tool to do this?
Don't forget that there are other things which need to come off before the case can be split.
Reverse gear bolt must be removed, some have a couple bolts which have springs and ***** for shift detents which must be removed, and there is a snap ring around the bearing on the countershaft which must be opened up to allow for removal.
It really helps on this to have the Helms and pictures in it.

The gears are not what you need to look at, the synchros are what wear out really fast. The things with the little teeth on them that engage as the shift forks move them on the main and countershafts. They should come to a diamond like point on the top of them.
To put it back together, you will need to clean off the mating surfcae and use Hondabond HT. It is essentially the reverse of what you did to take it apart. Make sure the snap ring goes into the groove.

i have no experience.. with transmissions.. im still wondering how to put it back together.... but are the syncros visible from what you were saying?
Yes, the only visual inspection you can really do is on these teeth. They are on the synchro rings which are the parts that the forks move. They slide up and down the main and countershafts, and lock the gears to the shaft. Any grinding you hear is these teeth on each other.
The other thing to take a look at is the magnet on the bottom of the clutch housing half of the tranny. See if it has a lot of metal shavings on it, which will be an indicator of excesive wear. Clean this off, it can be removed. Careful, Don't get metal slivers, they're a bitch.
