How to push start a car?
Everyone talks about push starting a car. i know how it works, instead of having a starter turn your flywheel ur doing it manually by cranking the whole motor over w/ the wheels. the question is how the hell do you do it?!
Push the car, get it to roll for a bit and jump in, pop the clutch in 2nd and walaa!
You can also pop it in 1st but its rough.

push the car, you need a lil of speed, you don't need battery at all, but i think you need one conected cuz it's not good to the alternator to work without a battery, so push it, put in 2, and let the clutch out, it's easy, but why would you want to do this? is this a temporary solution? i did this when my car came from from the US, it was here a friday after noon and i used it the whole weekend, always parked it on a hill so i could turn it on easy, lol it was funny
o yeah, the key has to be on ON

you can also do it in reverse!
I would probably laugh until I pissed my pants if someone started their auto down a hill in neutral and popped it into drive as it was rolling.. That would be something I've never heard of before..

It's not very safe, since the pump won't be pumping ATF around tho.
If your pump is at the rear on the transmission though, it's perfectly safe and you can tow the car as long as you want.
Its kinda scary doing this when you arent good at it. Imagine being in a parking lot with cars around on a upslope. You put the car in 2nd with the clutch in, let the car roll, then as your gaining speed coming out of the parking spot, you start letting go of the clutch..............nothing happens. You car isnt on, battery is dead, no one to call, no cables, but now your blocking another car...lol
emergencies
if ur battery die and u have no jumper cable, 2 am in a empty parking lot, with not cell phone nor pay phone, I guess, you have no other choice...
or like me and have a dead starter.
I'm guessing that push starting in 2nd requires a higher rolling speed than in 1st, but its smoother? I push started my car half a dozen times these last few weeks in R and 1st, pretty rough on some starts =\
