Default how much longer my engine will last?

well i have noticed that my car has been burning quite a bit of oil and well after doing some research i think its the piston rings, i was planning on taking a 2000 mile round trip this spring, is it dangerous to take it?

i will do a compression test this weekend.. but i never done a leak down test, how do i do it and what tools do i need?

To do a leakdown you'll need the tester and access to a air compressor. Any local car parts store should have this. What your doing forcing air into each cylinder while its at tdc, the gauge on the tester will tell you if your leaking a certain percentage of air that your forcing in. If it is leaking you should be able to hear it come out from somewhere in your motor. Good Luck
