How much did I save by performing some basic maintenance?
I recently changed spark plugs, oil and manual trans fluid. What does the labor charge run on these tasks?
I'm trying to justify the investment I made in tools!

Oil change depends on oil used but average is about $30 using bulk oil, [$42.88 at my local Acura dealer using "genuine" Honda motor oil and filter] add another $20-$30 for transmission oil change, [$49.95 at the dealer]
A spark plug change will be $75-$100, [inc. plugs], kind of depends on the shop.
Hint... you never need to justify any tool investment, don't forget your going to need the tools again in 8000mi or 12mo, [I do my oil every 5000mi].
One more thing, you can never have enough tools.

I'm figuring another $50 for the heat gun job you walked me through. That pays for the oil, oil filter, tranny fluid, filter cap socket, drain pan and disposal container.
That makes me feel pretty good about investing in the tools. Next job will start paying for the breaker bars, sockets, etc. Maybe I'll treat myself to a cordless impact driver this holiday season, which I'll at least partially justify by hardwiring a DC socket splitter to my Honda.

Thanks. Let's say $35 for the oil since I used Castrol GTX and Purolator filter, $25 for the tranny oil, and $80 for the plugs. That's $140, which pretty much pays for the floor jack and jack stands.

Another way of thinking is that you know you didnt double gasket your oil filter, over tighten you drain plug, gaped the plugs right used a good oil and filter.... thats priceless in my mind.
