how to install new key on distrb?
i took off the old key, and im trying to figure out how to get the install right on putting the new key in.
it wont be good if its 180* off.
is their a way besides taking off the distb. cover to see which way is tdc? or which way the offset key should face?
i cant tell

I just set the rotor to #1 and set teh key correspondingly. I think the wide side with the groove sits on the intake side with the rotor set to fire the #1 cyl.

Look at the distributor rotor side and set the rotor to the lower-left corner.
Flip the distributor around to the key side. Set the key so that the side with the groove is on your right hand-side.
Maybe you've got one of those not-so-mythical non-assymetrical distributor keys. In which case, it shouldn't matter which way the key goes on. The rotor will determine the positioning.
