How do you guys rev match??
iv been reading about how ppl are rev matching on some other forum sites. most of them are still using the clutch what is the point of using the clutch a bit with a rev match. i dont even touch the clutch at all i can go from 65mph and go down gear to gear all the way to 1st with out touching the clutch and its a clean smooth shift with no grinds. maybe i just have to much time on my hands haha.
Because the purpose of rev matching is to take stress off your synchros and the only way to do this is by controlling the speed of the transmission input shaft with an intermediate step while in neutral and the clutch engaged. If all you're doing is revving up with the clutch disengaged, then you're still relying on the syncro to speed up the input shaft. Maybe I've misinterpreted what you're doing but it doesn't sound like a rev match.
The purpose of rev matching is to keep the torque constant at the wheels while downshifting so the car does not become unstable. All road racers use it but it is of no use in drag racing. If you can do it without the clutch that is fine. A well broken in transmission will allow you to downshift without the clutch easier than one is brand new. I had an 02 Civic Si that would grind anytime I tried to downshift without the clutch but I also had an RX7 that I only used the clutch to launch the car from a stop and then shifted entirely without the clutch.
well im talking about down shifting by rev matching. i blurp the throttle while its still in gear and downshifting all at the same time and by doing so i dont have to use the clutch. thats how my friend told me how "the real way was done". he is a training to be a rally racer with his 05 sti. he told me by not using the clutch and doing it this way your car is more stable going into corners and if boosted you stay in boost while you are downshifting.
