Default How do traction bars work?

I'm really wondering how traction bars do anything. From the look of them they replace your front crossmember and radius rods. I did notice that they also remove the bushing that connects the radius rod to the front crossmember. I could see how this could help. The reason I'm wondering this is because I'm having a lot of traction problems. If the bushing is the only help in a traction bar does that mean I could just weld up a bar from the radius rod to the front crossmember to make it a solid mount instead of a bushing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
