Default How do I convert a Y1 cable trans to type R

At last nights races, I ran against a '86 CRX with B16 and he always pulled away at 3rd gear (I have an '88 CRX with B16). He told me that he had changed a couple of pinion gears in order to convert his Y1 to type R but wouldn't tell me which ones or how.

Does anyone know what it takes to do this because it seems this was his advantage!

Thanks!

I think the guy will smoke you no matter what you do, 86 CRX's are way fawking light.

Not sure on what he did to make his tranny 'type-R' like cuz type-R gears are not compatible with Y1 B16 tranny's. The only suggestions I can think of is either (1) get rid of your Y1 tranny in favor for an S1 B16 trans or YS1 VTEC tranny. The YS1 has the same exact gearing as Type-R tranny and the JDM YS1 B16 tranny has an optional LSD.

I've got a spare cable tranny but the sticker indicating which one it is is missing. How can I figure out which tranny I have after I open it? Is there a way of counting teeth on the pinions? I remember my mecahnoc saying it was a 440 which I think is the same as my Y1...
