Default How could you tell?

Question. How could you tell which motor is which by looking at it. Im talking about between the LS Vtec, B16, B18, B18c.. etc. How could you tell which is which between the DOHC. Because can't people lie about what they have? thanks

All vtec engines have a VTEC solenoid. that's a dead give away.
Now if it's an LS or CRV/B20 vtec engine, just look at the engine block stamp, it should read one of the follwoing:
B18A1; 90-93 LS block
B18B1; 94-01 LS block
B20Zx (US or JDM); any 98+ B20 block

All true vtec blocks have one of these ID stamps:
B16A/A2/A3
B17A1
B18C/C1/C3/C4/C5

Wrong, I have a VTEC motor w/ a stock valve cover & it doesn't say VTEC on it. Motors mentioned above have forgot about D series. Mines a '92 D16Z6.
