How could 4th gear be grinding again!?!?!
Yesterday, my 4th gear started to grind again. It is when i shift any rpms above 4grand. Even when i try to slow my shifting down. Not bad enough to cause me to miss the gear, it always goes right in. I just dont understand, because about 2 months ago(2400miles) I put a new 3rd and 4th gear synchros set and shift fork in it. Ive got a 98 us itr tranny. Another thing i dont understand is that ive never missed 4th, or had that gear grind on me hard since the rebuild, so how could it be messed up again. Maybe i need to replace the gear too? I dont think the shift fork is bent again, becuase it stays in gear nice and tight once it is in there. Also second gear likes to grind enough that i misshift sometimes, but only when im drag racing it. Other than that second is okay. That may be due to my driving, but last pass at the track, i grinded second really hard, and i was purposly trying to slow my shifting way down, because i was paranoid i might miss second, and it still happened. But like i said, second is fine otherwise. My clutch master and slave were replaced within the past year, and they look okay to me. Any ideas why I would suddenly be having problems like this or what to check? Thanks alot!!
Do you use normal oil or Honda MTF?? If you use normal oil put some HMTF into it... Normal oil doesn't contain the friction additives that HMTF has for the synchros to work properly... Good Luck
