How to Bleed the ALB System
I have 1988 Acura Legend w/ the dual brake reservoir Honda ALB system. This is the Honda version of the ABS and I believed it's the 1st generation ALB system. Can someone tell me how can I flush out all the old brake fluid and in w/ the new? The Honda ALB system is simply too strange for me. I am more familar w/ the Bosch ABS. THANKS
When you do that, which part of the brake system were you bleeding off? I was under the impression vaccume bleeding would remove the regular master cylinder fluid and not the ALB master cylinder...
The ALB is not "like any other brakes." It has a 2nd master cylinder and has its own pump. My understand is, it is far different than typical Bosch "in-line" unit. Afterall Honda did re-invent their own ABS system (didn't feel like royalty fee to Bosch?!?) I guess I should ask a better question, how do I activate the ALB pump? I am guessing I could use the internal unit to flush out the old brake fluid...
Friend of mine has an older Legend like that. The ABS has it's own reservoir & bleed screw, like my '95 Integra. Only that the bleed screw is just about impossible to reach. There's a special tool, which amounts to a bleeding bottle & hose, with a wrench handle, so you can open the bleed valve that you can't see.
It's pretty strange & I'm probably remembering it wrong. So you'll want to get your hands on a Helm manual. It's got a pretty good description of the system. He found a copy of the Helm manual at the library...
