hood scoops, the true CAI?
Back in the day with the older muscle cars and now with newer imports and american cars a lot of companies use hood scoops. As part of a good intake system would it be proper to have a cone filter on a short arm intake right below a scoop on a hood to bring in cooler air or does a hood scoop really matter? Also on some hoods they have the hood scoop going the opposite way. Usually you see the scoop when looking from the front and you can understand how the air is forced in but now they have them where the hood will go up and the scoop is an indentation facing the opposite way. How does that work and does it improve air flow if you have a cone filter in the engine bay near a scoop? I am going to get a CF hood soon but I don't know whether to go with the scoop or stock look for my 91' Integ.
At the base of the windshild is a high pressure area when driving down the road. Make an opening there and air just naturally wants to fill the opening with cooler higher pressure air. However it does not become effective until quite high speed. Just like those stupid looking wings on the back of cars do not do much good at legal highway speeds.
