no. only hone i had was the one with the three stones. i TRIED to get a ball one. i'm told they are better for hatching.
the motor only has about 50k miles on it, i'm guessing by the looks of it. all i needed to do was remove the glazing.. kinda freshen everything up. i just want to be sure it is right.
if not, i will redo it before i put it together.. .. i just have nobody answering yet as to whether or not it looks right..........?

It looks like you didnt feed any kind of cutting lube in there, did you do it still with the crankcasebelow like in the picture?

That looks nasty. I usually just use Wd-40 to lube the hone, works pretty damn well. Did you remove the crank and oil squirters when you honed it? You are gonna break off a squirter if you keep doing it like that, and/or damage the crank.

everything was out. i used a GRIP of WD-40.. a GRIP. maybe i should have sprayed it continuously while i was honing?

okay, i assumed so. good. just checking 'cause it surprised me that p/s fluid would work.

next question: is the cylinder so bad that i won't be able to save it? i'm going to work on it tonight and want to be sure that i hone JUST enough to fix it right.

its hard to rehone and use the same bore because you might not get the proper piston-wall clearence, which means a bigger gap in the rings which means more blowby. It is best to get it honed on a machine and get overbore pistons each time you re-ring because when doing a ball hone there will be not a perfectly flat contact patch and that will develop hot spots in the sleeves which could result in early cracking if temps get too high. Make sure you hone with 800 grit or you might not get proper seal with the rings.

all ring gaps were well within tolerance. i wasn't able to find a ball hone, had to use the one with the three stones, did just enough to take off the glazing. had a guy come look at the honing. he's a master mechanic for honda. says it looks fine. showed him the pictures i posted above.. apparently the flash makes the cross hatches look worse than they are.
motor is put back together. we'll see how it goes on monday. that should be when i fire her up again.

i'm sick. gonna rest 'till monday.
