Default Hondata w/p28 question...

I have a few questions regarding this modification...

a.) Which and where can I find the 74HC373 chip?
b.) I am unable to find a 1.1k Ohm resistor, I can however get a 1k Ohm resistor. Will this be sufficient?
c.) For the jumper wire, can I wire up a switch instead so I can choose between the external and internal roms? (For emissions Reasons)

thanks

The 74HC373 chip should have been included with the Hondata kit
you will need a 1.1k ohm resistor, we get ours from local electronics supply company.
I have heard of people using a switch on the J1 jumper , but I don't think it's that easy. you run the risk of communications loss. If you do attempt this, i would suggest a very high quality switch with very little or no voltage drop.

how would it be possible to have a voltage drop when all a simple switch does is close/open a circuit?

Any switch will have a bit of resistance in it due to not being a solid circuit.

Granted, the resistance may only be .1-.3 ohms but it is still resistance in the circuit. Soldering also can cause resistance in circuit. Any time a circuit is changed, for instance, adding a switch, fuse, changing wire size, etc. causes a resistance (high/low) change in the circuit, which in turn can cause current to change in circuit. And when current changes, especially in printed circuits, it can seriously cause some issues (ie. burned circuits if too high current). Every component in a cicuit has a voltage drop through it (ie. takes a little bit of the source voltage away from the circuit)

OK, electronics class time:

Easy interpretation: think of water flowing through a hose, if the water flows at a rate of 12 gallons per second (voltage), and lets say it takes 5 psi of pressure (amps) to make water flow through hose. Now, if you add a faucet to the hose to control flow (switch/resistance), even with faucet on wide open, there is still small change made to hose, which will cause flow to change (voltage drop).

Now, what originally took 5psi of pressure to make 12 gallons of water to flow has now reduced to 5 psi of pressure flowing, say, 11 gallons of pressure through. Unless you increased pressure to get water to flow at 12 gallons again. If the hose (circuit) was only rated at 5psi of pressure before, and you increased pressure, now you have increased the pressure causing hose to rupture due to current change.

PayPal $15 bux to xtinct@hotmail.com and I'll send you the socketing package that comes with Hondata. I don't need it. Has all the resistors and the 74HC373 chip.

I know we should fix the website. It's in the works as we speak. We're still trying to get moved into our new shop so the website has kind of unfortunately taken a back seat for time being.

Sorry...
