Default honda computer debate

maybe this will be good for a laugh...

ok guys... i am arguing with a guy on a local board about honda computers... i am now posting this in tech section now because in the other section a decent number of people were reading but none were responding. i just want some sanity brought to this guy.

this is from talking about a b16a with CTR cams

ok well thats a start the P30 is what would have come with the B16A2, of course its not as flashy as saying you have a PCT (EK CTR) but whatever at least it is the right ECU for the motor.

So now then, if you really have CTR bump sticks then we need to look at the fuel issue. Do you have an upgraded fuel rail and injectors ? what is the rating on the injectors if you have upgraded ones. You will need an FPR from STR or Weapon R to dial up the pressure a few lbs. An upgraded rail from Skunk2 or STR would also be recommended.

You also need a hotter spark source MSD-6AL or equal.

Also either a CTR throttle body or no larger then 4mm over bore throttle body. JG body with Brass butterfly if you can find it, if not Gude Performance aka Bull Frog.

What kind of headers you have, 4-1, 4-2-1 ?

4-1 is only for top end power and has a big hole in the mid range which creates lag on the street. If you have 4-1 change to 4-2-1. Brand really does not matter. For long life go with DC's.

Distributor, you need to run about 3 ticks advance on the distributor, best way is to keep the 12mm ? wrench in your car loosen the bolt small twist and retighten make a couple passes and gauge pickup from 2k on or pull at the top. Depending on what you want to dial in.

Go buy the interga GSR fuel filter and replace the body mounted CRX fuel filter.

Same thing with the Cat if it is a stock CRX cat, drop it and get a high flow cat, check the rear exhaust should be 2 1/4 from the cat back

Pull the plugs inspect and record the spark plug numbers, get NGK platinums if not installed.

Then once you have done the above, disconnect the battery overnight (in a secure place your garage etc) and then in the morning reconnect and start the car without blipping the throttle, let the car idle for at least 5 to 10 minutes or until the car drops idle and beings to run on the warm cycle.

Then turn the car off and restart, take the car immediately on the road and up to redline in every gear at WOT if possible. Then for the next day shift WOT at every gear where ever possible, after 48 hours or 10 restarts your ecu will remap to a new higher rate fuel and spark map.

this is about obd2 vs obd1

OBDII sucks compared to OBD0/1

The electronics want to overide any and all performance mods to bring all the senors back to the factory spec, unlike refreshing an ODB0/1 PGM-FI which will remap and retain the new settings most Honda OBDII ECU will only remap for a short period, until you turn the key off typically and then will revert to their preprogrammed map settings even if you have heavy mods, which typically result in random CEL as senors go out of range.

So with OBDII you reset the ecu, start let it idle and run the crap out of it, they will usually run pretty strong with your mods, but back off the throttle and cruise for more then 5 minutes and shut it off and restart it the ECU will do a automatic refresh and try and pull the sensor data back into "range" which if you have a larger throttle body some porting done etc will through everything off and you will either run like crap or get a CEL which is screw everything else up, run in limp mode and overpressurise the fuel system making it run too rich thus retarding performance.

Its the reason why most tuners swap the OBDII ecu with newer modded software such as Hondata units. In 96+ cars

about the P28 ECU

the P28 has four maps that I know of, one of which it switches to only under specific drive in conditions. It is based on an agressive wot and redline log.

from which it will then operate the closed loop duty cycle from.

it will only switch fuel and spark maps when "taught" to do so by the ecu's inputs.

I am trying to tell him he is full of ****, but he wont believe me... It makes me want to hit my head on a wall.
