HID lighting
I understand that HID kits are illegal in the US? Why is that? Are they safe for use in a daily driver? I was thinking this kit specifically. http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/higblubeam75.html What are the risks I'm taking installing it? I heard a small rumor that the kit can mess with your electrical system. Can anyone put any solid fact to this? Or even recommend a good kit? I'm assuming for myself that if installed properly, the kit won't have any effect on the electrical system. I would like your input.
Also, I ran across some 12v LED bulbs that are said to work in most vehicles without modification. http://www.superbrightleds.com/led_prods.htm They were awfully sketchy when they said this though. Have any of you experience with these? I'm willing to buy them just to try them for corner lights, tail lights back-up lights, and anything else I can put them in
I just wondered if problems with them shorting the electrical system because of low current draw was a problem? Please give your input, even if only opinion.

HID conversions are illegal because they don't meet the DOT standards. They typically use the existing headlight assembly's reflector and that causes all sorts of focus problems that cause glare, etc, to on-coming traffic.
As for LED marker/turn lights, a lower current draw will not cause electrical problems or shorts. They may however cause your turn signals to flash faster or slower (Idon't recall the effect of a burned out signal bulb because I never had one) because of the lower current draw.
