HELP!!! stripped the starter motor mounting bolt
Just like the title says. My jackass somehow managed to strip this POS. It is the last bolt between me and my cluch/flywheel install. Anyone have any ideas? PLEASE HELP! Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
What are thread inserts? Also, what is a Heli-Coil set and where can I get one? Just to clarify my self because after I reread my post I sound down right frantic, I stripped the head of the bolt. The thing is still attached to the starter motor and dug into my block, as tight as ever but strangely rounded
. Thanks for all your help

I guess everyone thought you stripped the threads, and not the bolt head. For that, try these things:
1) try a big pair of locking pliers, if you can fit them
2) get a cheap socket 1 size smaller, and hammer it on
3) take it to a shop as a last resort. $$$ fixes anything
4) i'm sure everyone else has some more ideas.....

shave two sides of the nut head so that u can fit locking pliars on it, get a blow torch and make sure u really heat it up, use wd-40 on it before heating it up, it wont blow up or burn too much down worry then it shoudl come out, if it stops comming out try heating it up again. i hope it works out
Maybe you could dremel off the head, which would allow you to remove the starter and give you room to try all sorts of stuff. You could bend the bolt at a right angle and use it as a "handle" to turn the bolt out.
What a bummer....feel for you man...

Used a dremel (weak POS), small chisel, screwdriver, large chisel, hammer and about 5 hours to get that bolt off. I dremeled the head of the bolt for about four, yes four, hours untill it was nothing but a little tapered cake of metal on the right side of the shaft (could only effectively get the dremel so far before I started colliding with other things). I then managed to pry the starter motor from the block from above and using the combination of aforementioned tools pried that sucker away Untill it bent that little cake of metal, allowing the starter to come off. The bolt then unscrewed by hand. Yeah. Thanks a lot for all the help. Just thought I would share how I finally got it off.
edit: does anyone have any ideas for a replacement bolt? Could I just go to a hardware store and pick up a suitable one, or does it have certain strength characterstics I should watch out for? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

are there any pep boys near you or other automotive stores? If not, try to find at least a grade 8 bolt. You can tell what the grade of a bolt is by how many lines there are on the bolt head pointing inward toward the center, the more lines, the higher grade ie stronger. If you bring your bolt along you can match up the bolt size, length and thread size.
