Help please... valve clearance for b18c?
Hey all.... Gonna adjust my valves but I've got a b18c in an eg. I'm assuming the valve clearance for the intake and exhaust are different for the b18c than the original sohc. Can anybody help me out and tell me what the clearance should be for the intake and exhaust? Thanks for the help.... really appreciate it....
Are you literally adjusting the valve guide to stem clearance? Or just adjusting the rockers against the cam lobes?
Well....I'm bored. Here are the specs for both:
With a dial indicator while rocking the stem in the direction of normal thrust (wobble method):
Intake Valve Stem-to-Guide Clearance:
Standard (New): 0.05 - 11 mm (0.002 - 0.004 in)
Service Limit: 0.16 mm (0.006 in)
Exhaust Valve Stem-to-Guide Clearance:
Standard (New): 0.10 - 0.16 mm (0.004 - 0.006 in)
Service Limit: 0.22 mm (0.009 in)
There is another method to measuring this by subtracting the outer diameter of the valve stem from the inner diameter of the valve guide with a micrometer. If you need these numbers instead, lemme know and I'll give them to you.
As for regular valve adjustments....
I assume you know the order and the method (i.e.: sequence and adjusting them cold, etc):
Intake: 0.15 - 0.19 mm (0.006 - 0.007 in)
Exhaust: 0.17 - 0.21 mm (0.007 - 0.008 in)

Thank you very much. Great info, but more than I was looking for. I'm just wondering what the regular valve adjustment clearance was because it's not the stock motor in the car. Sorry I didn't mention that. But thanks again.....
