Default Help a newbie out

I have a honda civic 02 lx.....non vtec...What is the exact type of engine in it? What would be better a turbo or a supercharger? I would like this car to last a while. Thanks

I think it is a d17 something.

As of right now I do not belive anyone offers a turbo or supercharger kit for your car, also, I don't know of any swaps for the 7th gen civic. You are kinda SOL.

Wait and find if anyone figures out a swap, or figure one out yourself. If you want your car to last, and be perfectly reliable forced induction isn't really the way to go unless you want to spend lots of money.

HXMan is correct about the FI stuff. Also, once you start adding power adders your warrantee is out the door even if it isn't your fault. Honda dealerships aren't haven't it, but you may have a good dealership where you are at.

If you want to start modifying, best to sell your current ride for much older model (read: no warrantee) and take the cash left over for mods. Do plenty of research. You may realize you might want to go, forgive me, the Nizmo route.

You will lose the warrantee on your car by fixing it up that way, and FI is expensive. But if you must put in a supercharger or turbo, I would go for the supercharger, if the pressure setting is not to high it shouldn't really wear down your engine, at least for some time; and besides, the supercharger works gradually all the time, so it doesn't suddenly shoot in like turbos do.

Dealerships might try that, but it's SO not true. Your warranty is only void if your mod is the direct cause of whatever problem occurs. If you have a turbo and you blow your piston rings = not covered. If you have a turbo and your timing belt skips a gear and smashes your valves...it is covered. It's called the Magnuson vs. Morley (sp.?) law...came about in the 70's because people might put an exhaust on their car and if the engine blew the dealer would try to say it was the muffler, which is BS. (or so I understand)
