Default Help with ignition timing.

Dont know what I am doing wrong but if anyone can help that would be great. I just put a new distributor in my car (d15b8 if that even matters) that i bought from all ingnition and i just cant seem to get the timing right. i have a timing gun that has advance adjustment. i put the advance on the gun to 16 degrees and with the distributor all the way advanced still cant get enough out of it. To give you an idea, with the gun at zero advance i can get the tdc mark to line up but this isnt right is it? anyone tell me what either i am doing wrong or what is wrong with the distributor that i cant advace any further. thanks

You can adjust the timing light to 0 and use the timingmarks on the crank pulley.
Sounds like your timing belt might be off a tooth. good luck

actually i have been questioning the timing belt. how do you line up the cam to tdc. do you make the two side marks parallel with the head surface of do you line up the of centered mark with the arrow on the back cover? I have it parallel right now. Also, with the timing light at zero the only line that comes close to the timing mark on the case is the tdc mark on the pulley. With the light at zero i should see the line at the 16 degree mark correct? thanks for the reply.

Can you compare the dizzy's? check the relation between the rotor and the cam positioner/gear.

Let's start there.

Then, well you can set it like the D16a6 and move the cam gear one tooth counterclockwise. The lines on the cam gear will be leaning toward the front of the car. You could try this and see if everything lines up.

thanks I'll check those few things out. Now lets say that the rotor and cam thingy on the other side line up different how they line up on the stock dist. , is there anything i can do about that or would i at that point need to contact the dist. manu.?

I would go to the Manu.

But I think you can swap them. I am not sure because I haven't done it yet.
