Default Help with gear selections and where to buy

97 honda civic DX

Here is my setup. Swapping out the Y7 tranny for a Y8 tranny.

Y8 tranny
OBX LSD
stock flywheel
ACT 2100 HDSS clutch (HD pressure plate/performance street disc)

1st gear- 3.250 (96-00ex 1st) 34mph (DX tranny 36mph)
2nd gear- 1.909 (96-00ex 2nd) 58mph (DX tranny 66mph)
3rd gear- 1.346 (ZC 3rd) 83mph (DX tranny 100mph)
4th gear- 1.033 (ZC 4th) 108mph (DX tranny 129mph)
5th gear- .702 (96-00ex 5th) 159mph (DX tranny 166mph)

(mph set at 6800rpm and 195/55/15 tire)

So where can i get those ZC gears and out of what vehicle? I use hondaautomotiveparts.com to order all my stuff as its discounted dealer prices. Anyone have any info where I can get these gears and what it will take to make ZC 3rd and 4th gears fit in a Y8 tranny (B000) Also, what else should i replace in the Y8 tranny during assembly?

I am actually thinking about going with a longer first gear to help with traction when the D16 gets boosted. What do you guys think. Open to opinions.

Goal: 1/4 mile car / Daily Driver. Dont need the car trapping over 110mph at the track. 1-4th 1/4 mile gears 5th economy gear to cruise on. If there are any plans in the future to trap higher than 100mph, I can just change the tire size. I think the gears I have are pretty good to what i want but open to new ideas and combos.

1/2 is a set, can't change just 1st. All D16 1/2 are the same, yr-yr, trim-trim. No aftermarket 1st available yet.

You'll need to buy a full ZC trans as finding the gears alone is getting hard. When I did my trans thats what I did. Then you can always use the ZC 5th, and sell the diff, 1/2, case, etc.

This might help.

what about just calling a honda dealer and buying those 2 gears?

What car is the ZC tranny in? Maybe I can search car-parts.com and find a used one in a junk yard.

And that link you provided above didnt help me but realize that car is slow!!! I pulled a 16.5 at 84mph on a d16y7 civic coupe with an intake, 4-2-1 header, no cat, 2.5 piping, wrx muffler and clutch slipping down the entire track (you can hear it in the shifts) I probably could of gotten the car down to a 16.2-16.00 if I actually launched the car. Give me a new clutch and I could probably just break 15s after a few tries. Here is the video:

ZC is not available in US. You'd pay A LOT more for new EDM ZC gears than you would a used ZC trans.

Good to hear you're close to sea level with cool temps and a good strip. Bristol is not known for being fast, at all. Just for reference, stock'ish 99-00 Si's go high 15's here. GSR's go mid 15's.

searched ebay and found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

figure 400 bucks for 2 gears??? OUCH!!! What other cars were the ZC trannys found in?

Here is a list I found of possible ZC trannys:

1990-1993 CRX (JDM)
1989-1992 CRX Si16/1.6i (JDM)
1985-1987 CRX Si (JDM)
1990-1993 Integra (JDM)
1986-1989 Integra (JDM)
1986-1987 Civic Si (JDM)
1988-1991 Civic Si (JDM)
1986-1987 Integra (d16A1)
1988-1989 Integra (d16a3)
1988-1989 Integra (d16 a8/9)
1988-1991 Civic Si/ CRX Si SOHC
1992-1995 Civic EX/Si/Del Sol Si

Which ones are the ZC trannys found in with the gears i need? Does anyone know the code on the tranny so I can confirm its actually a ZC tranny?

As I said before, ZC gears are NOT AVAILABLE IN THE US.

Wait until HMO gets them back in stock. I paid $225 shipped a couple years ago for one.

ZC is not available in US. Period. It was never made here, never sold here, so its not available here.

I took 3 seconds to search on ebay for "ZC transmission" and found 3.

ummm they are not available in the US but yet you found 3 of them on ebay to buy? Yeah um... I just listed car-parts.com (a directory of junk yards) and ebay.com that sells everything. If someone could just direct me to what cars ZC transmission are in, wether the cars are avaliable in the US or not, I would appreciate it. Is there a code on these trannys?

1990-1993 CRX (JDM)
1989-1992 CRX Si16/1.6i (JDM)
1985-1987 CRX Si (JDM)
1990-1993 Integra (JDM)
1986-1989 Integra (JDM)
1986-1987 Civic Si (JDM)
1988-1991 Civic Si (JDM)

1986-1987 Integra (d16A1)
1988-1989 Integra (d16a3)
1988-1989 Integra (d16 a8/9)
1988-1991 Civic Si/ CRX Si SOHC
1992-1995 Civic EX/Si/Del Sol Si

You said you were going to call Acura. I said they're not available. You said surely the trannys are (from Acura). I said they're not. Now you're still asking whether any cars in the US came with it.

:sigh:

Okay, these cars are not available in the US:

1990-1993 CRX (JDM)
1989-1992 CRX Si16/1.6i (JDM)
1985-1987 CRX Si (JDM)
1990-1993 Integra (JDM)
1986-1989 Integra (JDM)
1986-1987 Civic Si (JDM)
1988-1991 Civic Si (JDM)

So which ones have the gears I am looking for? Just because they arent available to buy in the US from the dealer, doesnt mean they arent here. They didnt just make Zc transmission/motors and put them on the shelf as stock. They had to put it in some cars which can probably be found on ebay and some junk yards.

My other question was, was code is found on the trannys with the ZC gears?

You won't find a ZC trans in a junkyard. Not very economical to buy a whole car on ebay just to get the ZC trans out of it.

There are 2 different ZC trans. One has the good gearing, the other is crap.

B000/6000/9000

Only way to really tell what it has inside is to split it open and count teeth. Which is why you buy from HMO.

who the hell said i am buying a whole car for a transmission? I am assuming that your assuming again? By asking for the type of car, It will help me in my search/knowledge about these cars. If I ask the owner what kind of car this tranny came out of and they say a car that never came with these trannys then that would be the incorrect tranny. By not knowing the list or atleast tranny code, I wouldnt be able to tell if I am being bullshitted or the seller is honest. Now that I am done explaining myself for no reason, can I please get some answers?

You don't search for the car it came in. You simply search for ZC transmission. Thats it.

Default Re: (Aquafina)

so if someone says they have a ZC tranny from a 97 honda civic, is that true?

Again, what cars do the ZC trannys come in. If the owner says he has a ZC tranny and it came out of a car that never had one, that would save me alot of hassle.

Any tranny codes on these ZC trannys to look for and confirm.

Anyone can say its a ZC tranny. How can I confirm it other than buying it, ripping it down, and taking a risk.

People do swap it into other cars. Won't be a hydro car. There is no code for it. Only way to tell is tear it down. Buy from HMO and you don't have to worry about getting scammed.
