Default help on buying a b16a

first of guys, this is has been very informative and help[ful, keep up the good work

i recently met up this guys, and he 's selling his B16a (ef) he says it needs an overhaul , and all those other things,
though i know he hasnt raced the engine bfore ,
we started the engine, cuz twas' still in his car, and it runs ok, the only thing thats
probably wrong is that, it puffs white smoke on the breather ;(
though im not well experienced in honda engines, thru my experience in cars and engines, isnt this a symptom of BLOWBY? if so, wouldnt it be needing just new rings and so... maybe it dont need a major overhaul after all,
hope some of u guys could diognose whats wrong with the engine if it puffs white smoke on the breather and what fixing it would need
the engine currently upon writing this post has been removed from the car,
i know some would say, why not buy a fresh b16, or a b18c from japan,
but the thing is... ive haggled the price with him, and he's willing to let go of it for
200bucks, kinda cheap eh, though he wont be throwing the ecu and harness with it
i thought that this might be a good project to rebuild it and learn from it,
since my experience in engines and modding them up are alot,
i have much less experience in honda's so , this might be a good base to learn
') hope some could shed a light,

peace'

Well first off, how do you know he never raced the engine ? And about the puff of smoke coming out of the breather, do you mean coming out of the exhaust ? You could do a leak down test and pin point exactly where its coming from. If it runs with no knock or anything like that, for 200 I would say buy it.

200 bucks is a great deal, even if messed up because you might as well get the **** rebuilt and running like new yo.

i knew he never raced it cuz , i personally know the guy

the white smoke ...
its on the oil breather, not the exhaust,

on toyota engines, and vw aircooled engines, when it blows smoke on the breather, this means BLOWBY, loss compression ...
so i was wondering if this is the condition of the b16a then it will just need a minore overhaul, like change the rings, etc.
the other catch is that he will sell the engine
with no ecu and harness ;(
but that shouldnt be of a bigger problem if i can find one ;
unless u guys say other wise

tnx for them feedbacks

No finding the other parts won't be a problem. Buy it already
